Memory
2002
This picture was taken in the Vendée region of France, in a garden designed by the French politician Georges
Clemenceau. He was a friend of the painter Claude Monet and attempted to match his painting style in
his garden. The result was a very cluttered picture. So I decided to select just one flower colour to
keep, and took the rest of the image to sepia in Photoshop.
The idea was to imagine my memory fading to sepia and then something, like Proust tasting a madeleine, triggers
an old thought and some colour returns.
